Sheriff Danny Bond, a stalwart in Butler County law enforcement for nearly four decades, has been named The Greenville Advocate Hero of the Week.

Bond, a native of Butler County, commenced his law enforcement career in 1985 with the Georgiana Police Department. After three years, he transitioned to the Sheriff’s office before ultimately joining the Greenville Police Department, where he spent the next 16 years.

Following a stint with the Alabama Board of Nursing in Montgomery as an investigator on nurse complaints, Bond returned to the Greenville Police Department and ascended to the rank of Captain of Patrol before being elected office as Sheriff for the first time.

David Scruggs, Chief Deputy of the Butler County Sheriff’s department, has collaborated with Bond for five years and has known him for an extended period and praised Bond’s character and dedication.

“He and I actually worked together at the Greenville Police department in Georgiana,” Scruggs reminisced. “Sheriff Bond is just an excellent guy to work for. He really does his best to help anyone in the community that he can.”

Renee Hickman is Office Administrator for the Sheriff’s department. She echoed Scruggs’ sentiment, lauding Bond as a wonderful boss.

“I love working for him,” Hickman remarked. “He’s very easy going. If you need anything, all you have to do is call him. He’s as good as gold.”

Reflecting on his tenure in law enforcement, Bond emphasized the importance of serving the community and seeking justice for victims.

“The best thing about law enforcement is being able to help people,” Bond stated. “You can’t always do things the way you want to do them, you have to follow the laws and the evidence…but it’s all about solving the case and getting justice for the victims.”

Bond expressed that he is currently working towards increasing the department’s involvement in community events such as Halloween on Commerce Street and the annual Christmas parade and highlighted their extensive donations with organizations such as Toys for Tots.

“It was an honor to be elected,” Sheriff Bond expressed. “And I want people to know that we are here for the public…for the people that live in Butler County. We can’t always do everything that we’re asked to do but we always do all that we can.”

Sheriff Danny Bond’s unwavering commitment to public service and his dedication to the community make him a deserving recipient of the Greenville Advocate Hero of the Week accolade.
