Runners, walkers – even hobblers: you are cordially invited to join this weekend’s Healthy Kids 5K/10K and Fun Run. The event is slated to kick off at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday, April 13 at Confederate Park in downtown Greenville. The event is part of the agency’s month-long celebration of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month in April.

“Along with our 5K/10K, we will also offer a fun morning for the kids, with games, face painting and, of course, a fun run for the younger set,” says Lisa Nimmer, director of Healthy Kids.

If you haven’t yet registered, there’s still time to do so, says Nimmer.

“Just go to www.active.com or healthykidsal.org to get registered online. You can register for just $25 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K through Friday, April 12.”

Late registrants can sign up on the day of the race for a fee of $30 for the 5K and $35 for the 10K. Registration and package pickup begins at 7 a.m. Saturday morning at the park with both the 5K/10K set to start promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Children’s activities are scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m. with the fun run at 10 a.m. to be followed by the costume contest at 10:15 a.m. Awards for top participants will be presented afterwards.

“This event is a great way for families, friends and co-workers to come together and help us in our efforts to make life better for our community’s children. As this year’s slogan says, ‘We all play a role in preventing child abuse and neglect,’” Nimmer says.
