It’s no secret that over the past few months the county has been subject to many unfortunate and traumatic weather occurrences. With this in mind, the Crenshaw County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) saw fit to contact the National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Spotter program.

“Meteorologists from the NWS will be conducting this program which will teach individuals how to recognize and understand different types of storms,” said Crenshaw County EMA director Elliott Jones.

“This will be very beneficial for our county, as we all know how unpredictable the weather has been this year.”

On Tuesday, April 19 the NWS will arrive in Luverne and will set up shop in the auditorium at Luverne High School (LHS).

The program is set to start at 6 p.m. and will last until approximately 8 p.m. Those in attendance are encouraged to stay as late as needed in order to ask questions and meet with the presenters.

The program is free of charge, and registration will be required.

“I truly hope that we have a good turnout. If the NWS sees a strong interest from our community, they will be coming back to teach more in depth classes for everyone,” Jones said.

“I am always trying to find new resources for our county. It is imperative that we constantly increase our knowledge whether it be through education, training or planning sessions. The day we stop learning is the day that we start failing.”
