Star Wars Day promises lots of fun for both children and adults on Saturday at the Greenville-Butler County Public Library.

Activities start at 11 a.m. for everyone, said Library Director Kevin Pearcey.

“We’re planning plenty of fun things to do,” said Pearcey. “We’ll have activity stations set up for children, all related to Star Wars, and we’re really excited to have Abrakadoodle Art Studios with us this year who have prepared some special Star Wars designs for face painting.”

Also the library will host a Star Wars story time and Star Wars Bingo with prize giveaways. Attendees can also browse and checkout the library’s collection of Star Wars novels, children’s books and graphic novels, and enjoy some light refreshments said Pearcey.

“We love hosting events like these because it gets both children and their parents into the library,” said Pearcey. “Parents see what we have to offer, especially in regards to reading and exploring the different services the library can offer.”

Additionally, attendees can expect a few guests from the Galaxy, Far, Far Away. Members of the 501st Legion’s Alabama Garrision – the world’s largest Star Wars costuming group – will be at the library to pose for pictures and mingle with the children and adults.

“The 501st is an authentic Star Wars costuming organization with incredibly detailed costumes based on the movies,” said Pearcey. “They volunteer their time to help promote Star Wars. We’re extremely excited they’ll be able to join us. And if you want to dress up and join us – please do!”

This is the second year the library has hosted Star Wars Day.

Pearcey said expect this to be an annual event and one, he hopes, continues to grow.

“We really had great turnout last year so we just had to bring it back,” he said. “And we’ll continue it going forward. Children and their parents get excited about Star Wars.”
