Starting in 1944 by the Kiwanis Club, the Butler County Fair will be making its annual appearance in Butler County Sept. 28 – Oct. 1.

For four days, Butler Fairgrounds will be decorated in arts and crafts, livestock, carnival rides and food.

“It is to promote homemaking community clubs, livestock, flowers and arts and crafts,” Richard Branum, Butler County Kiwanis Club member. “We have arts and crafts, sewing, canned goods, baking, decorating, woodcrafts, preserves and jams, syrups, honeys, pickles and relishes, and dried foods.”

This year, the Butler County Kiwanis Cub and the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries will be hosting the event.

Each night there will be different bands performing, including Liberty Baptist Church and The Next Level Band, Butler County Grand Ole Opry, Southern Legends Band and Roscoe Miller Entertainment.

Prizes will be given throughout the fair for different categories, and all of the profits from the fair will be donated.

“We take profits and donate it back into the city of Greenville and county,” Branum said.
“With such things as 25 Kids’ Christmas through Butler County Department of Human Resources and the Children’s Hospital. We do all kinds of donations.”

For children under 46 inches, admission is free, and it’s $2 for children under 5 feet. All adults and children over 5feet will be $6. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. every day except Saturday, which will be 1 p.m. Armbands are available for $13 Wednesday to Friday.

“We expect everyone,” Branum said. “How many people, who knows, but we hope everyone comes.”
