The Greenville Tigers made a statement last week with big win over rival Charles Henderson, but the Tigers will have a big challenge this week when they travel to Carver.
The Wolverines gave Greenville their worst loss of last season with a 40-18 thumping in week two.
Carver went through the regular season undefeated, and their only loss came deep in the playoffs.
In this year’s preseason poll, Carver is ranked No. 4 in 5A, and Blackmon said his team has its work cut out for it.
“They’re a very good football team,” he said. “They’re big, fast, strong — all the things you look for.”
Blackmon said his team also has room to improve after the first game of the season.
“Fundamentally, we need to get better,” he said. “There’s not just one area that needs work. We need to get better in all facets of the game: offense, defense and special teams.”
The game was also originally scheduled for Friday, but it has been moved to Thursday at 7 p.m. at Crampton Bowl in Montgomery.
