Council approves contract for airport improvements

Greenville council members have approved a contract with Garver Engineers, LLC to provide engineering services for improvements to the Mac Crenshaw Memorial Airport.
The city received funding through the Federal Aviation Administration to make enhancements to the partial parallel taxiway used by aircraft.
The proposed contract amount totals $74,402.
Other business:
– The council approved the following expenditures: $1,697 to Clark’s Body Shop for repairs to Police Car No. 70; $2,350 to CWA Group for Semi Annual Groundwater Monitoring at the old Greenville Landfill; $156,478 to the Municipal Workers Compensation Fund, Inc. for billing period Feb. 1, 2009 to Jan. 31, 2010.
Other news:
– City business licenses are due payable for 2009. Penalty begins on Feb. 1.
– The February meeting of the Greenville Planning Commission will be held on Feb. 2 at 5 p.m.
– Next city council meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
-Interested parties are invited to meet Dr. Herbert Riedel, the new President of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, at a reception on Friday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Technology Building at LBWCC-Greenville.
