The Fort Dale Academy Lady Eagles' softball team came away from consecutive doubleheaders on the short end of the stick as they dropped three of four games. The winning game came against Monroe Academy last Friday courtesy of seventh-inning hit that gave FDA the 8-7 decision.

In the second game of the doubleheader, FDA had built up an early lead by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added one run in both the third and fifth innings.

In the top of the seventh, Monroe was looking at a 7-4 deficit. But, they came storming back in the last inning to tie the game. Two errors committed by the Lady Eagles was the key to Monroe's comeback.

In the bottom of the inning, Lisa Atkinson led off with a single. After FDA worked the bases loaded, Stephanie Townes came up to the plate and delivered the game-winning hit that scored Atkinson.

Head coach Steven Kilcrease said pitcher Heather Wyatt was a major reason that his team pulled out the victory.

"Heather did a great job for us," Kilcrease said. "She put the ball where it needed to be which kept them off the bases."

Leading hitters for FDA were Lisa Atkinson, who went four for four with one RBI and a run, Michelle Hinson went three for four with two RBIs.

The first game of the doubleheader with Monroe was not as dramatic with Monroe blasting past the Lady Eagles, 15-5.

Leading hitters during the first game were Hinson, who went three for three with an RBI and a run and Aja Reynolds, who batted two for two with an RBI.

On Tuesday, FDA played another doubleheader, this time against Crenshaw Christian Academy.

The first game ended in a 9-3 loss. Wyatt led the Lady Tigers by going two for three and scoring two runs and Michelle Hinson also batted two for three.

The second game also ended badly for FDA as Crenshaw Christian came away with a 16-4 victory.

Leading batters for FDA were Lacey Adams, who went three for four, Jami Barlow, three for four, Wyatt, two for three with two RBIs and Hinson, who went two for three.

Kilcrease said the Lady Eagles could become a better team by playing more consistently from game to game.

"One game we will hit good and then the next we won't. Then we will play good defense

for a game and then we will commit a lot of errors.

We are not playing with the consistency that we need in order to remain competitive.

"I think we have what it takes to be a good team. We just need to work toward putting everything together everytime we play. If we do that we we'll win more games."

The Eagles' record stands at 2-8. They are 1-1 in the region.

The Eagles had the opportunity to improve their region record last night as they traveled to face Sparta Academy in Evergreen.
