Moore to address Republicans Aug. 12

Judge Roy Moore, circuit judge for the sixteenth judicial circuit, will be the keynote speaker at the

Republican Party Rally next week.

The event is Aug. 12 at 7.m. at the Ritz Theatre.

Other state republican candidates will be in attendance.

Moore, who gained national recognition for his stand regarding "The Ten Commandments" in his courtroom, received his doctor degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1977.

He earned his bachelor of science degree from the United States Military Academy, West Point in 1969.

Moore has served as circuit judge of the sixteenth judicial district since 1992. He practiced law in Gadsden, Ala., for eight years prior to that.

He became Etowah County's first deputy district attorney in 1977, and served in that capacity for five years.

His "Ten Commandments" battle was highlighted on the Today Show, 20/20, NBC Nightly News, ABC World News, CNN, CBN's "700 Club," the "Coral Ridge Hour," "Focus on the Family," C-Span, and numerous other national and regional radio radio and television programs, as well as numerous major newspapers including USA Today and the Los Angeles Times.
