Man charged with kidnapping

A McKenzie resident was arrested Tuesday evening on a warrant charging kidnapping in the first degree, said Diane Harris, sheriff of Butler County.
"Stemming from an incident that occurred between the dates of Dec. 25, 2000 and Jan. 12 of this year, we arrested Jerris (Jerry) Don Booker, a 46-year-old white male resident of Booker Road in McKenzie," Sheriff Harris said. "The victim, Lee Phillips Madden, age 36, has alleged that Booker repeatedly beat her, and would not let her leave his residence.
"The victim and suspect were in a dating-type relationship, and she had gone to Booker's house to tend to an injured leg for him," Harris said.
"The victim also said that Booker held her against her will by repeatedly beating her and holding her at gunpoint at his residence, until Jan. 4," Harris said.
"It was at this time, according to the victim, that Booker forced her, at gunpoint to travel against her will to the Embassy Suite Hotel in Montgomery, where he continued to hold her against her will, until Jan. 12," the sheriff said.
"According to reports filed with the Montgomery Police Department, On Jan. 12, at approximately 8 p.m., the MPD officers entered the room at Embassy Suites, and Madden was transported to Jackson Hospital where she was treated for a fractured hand and a fractured jaw," Harris said. "At that time, Booker was arrested for domestic violence, second degree and possession of a controlled substance."
Harris said that the victim signed a warrant in Butler County Court on Jan. 17, charging Booker with kidnapping in the first degree.
"Booker made bond and was released from the Montgomery jail before the warrant for kidnapping was signed," Harris said. "We attempted to locate him and after we contacted his attorney, Booker turned himself in to our office on Jan. 23."
"Booker has already made bond in the amount of $30,000 for the charge of kidnapping, first degree, which is a class A felony," Harris said. "If convicted, Booker could be sentenced to not less than 20 years, since a firearm reportedly was used," Harris said.
