Georgiana’s School’s 7-1 loss to Calhoun High School on Friday was a matter of simple math, according to Panthers head coach David Watts.

Thirteen stranded base runners and five errors adds up to a disappointing loss in the Panthers’ regular-season finale.

“We had our chances, but just couldn’t put it together,” Watts said. “(Calhoun) had a group that fought hard to win, and we didn’t seem as motivated for whatever reason. It is very disappointing that we, as a team, don’t compete at our best every time out.”

The Tigers snapped a 1-1 tie in the top of the third inning when they plated four runs, thanks in large part to four Georgiana errors.

Calhoun managed eight hits in the contest, but drew just three walks and struck out 15 times.

“Our pitching was good enough to win,” Watts said. “They got some hits, but we didn’t walk many. The thing that killed us was the four-run inning we gave up as a result of the errors.”

Offensively, the Panthers struggled to generate offense despite eight walks issued by the Calhoun pitching staff.

“Their pitcher did a good job of battling,” Watts said. “He stranded 13 runners, but we didn’t get any timely hits, and we struck out way too much.”

The Panthers managed just four hits in the game, while striking out 11 times.

Rodney Cheatham, Richard Boggan, Matt Colvin and Justin Oikle each had a hit for the Panthers. Colvin had Georgiana’s lone RBI.
