Jami Barlow, a former Fort Dale Academy basketball player, recently experienced a week that she will remember for a long time.

A member of the Huntingdon Lady Hawkes basketball team, Barlow was able not only to play in a national tournament, but to come within one game of being the National Small College Athletic Association (NSCAA) national champion, along with her teammates.

After beating Southern Virginia College, the defending national champion, by a score of 78-76, they faced the host school for the tournament, Central Maine Technical College.

Central Maine had a 44-game winning streak on their home court, and had been favored to win the tournament.

Huntingdon took the game into overtime before emerging the winner.

In the national championship game, Huntingdon faced The Apprentice School Builders and were defeated by a score of 94 to 62.

The Huntingdon Lady Hawkes were represented on the all tournament team by senior All-American Whitney Eaton and Freshman Jami Barlow.

Barlow was the only freshman to make the All-tournament team. Although the team was defeated, Barlow said she was able to visit a different part of the country.

"And I saw enough snow to last for a lifetime," she said.
