The friendly folks of the historic Pine Apple community invite local residents to come on over and &uot;sit a spell&uot; on the porches of some of its many beautiful historic homes during the annual &uot;Front Porch Tour&uot;, sponsored by Pine Apple Promotions.

This taste of southern hospitality is scheduled for this Sunday, May 27 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Pine Apple Historic District is on the National Register of Historic Places. 16 homes will be featured on the tour, including outstanding architectural examples of antebellum planter, Queen Anne, coastal/creole cottage and Craftsman-style homes.

Designated homes will also feature delicious cooling iced tea, lemonade and cookies for the visitors to enjoy as they sit in comfortable rockers and old-fashioned porch swings and visit with the homeowners.

Additional tour sites include an 1852 barn filled with fascinating antique implements and machinery, furnished log cabins, the 1927 library, Moore Academy, the 1902 bank building (now a gift shop), four historic cemeteries and two churches.

Visitors are welcome to attend services at the churches’ 11 a.m. worship hour.

Entertainment underneath the town gazebo runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. featuring country blues musician, historian and storyteller Jerry Daniel along with the lovely voices of students trained by well-known local vocal instructor, Millie McDonald.

Tickets for the tour are $5 each. Fried chicken box lunches will also be available at tour headquarters in Moore Academy for $5 a person.

Lunches will be served beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 2 p.m. and dining room space is available inside.

There are also picnic areas available in town at the gazebo.

Tickets, maps and information are all available at the Academy, which serves as the self-guided tour’s starting point.

Unique Pine Apple souvenir items, including calendars, caps, T-shirts, mugs and tote bags will be available for purchase here also.
