FDA rally comes up short

A Fort Dale Academy comeback bid came up just short Tuesday, as Escambia Academy held on for an 11-9 victory in Atmore.

Trailing by two, the Lady Eagles (1-4) had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning when a mistake on the basepath resulted in a game-ending double play.

The loss is the fourth in a row for Fort Dale.

“We do have a young team and it will take time,” FDA head coach Scarlet Anderson said. “(Against Escambia) we started off well and then made some bad errors in the third inning. We just couldn’t get our footing.”

Anderson said while errors continue to plague Fort Dale, the Lady Eagles are working together as a team.

“We’re hoping to work on (eliminating) the errors as always, and we will continue to do so,” she said. “The girls worked as a team (against Escambia) and that was nice to see.”

Fort Dale will be back in action Thursday when it plays host to Hooper Academy. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Fort Dale Sportsplex.
