The Dixie Youth league kicked off its season Saturday with several games, many played on the Greenville Park and Recreation's new field at Day Park.

In Dixie Minor play the A's took on the Giants with the A's coming out a winner, 6-3. Shortstop Josh Ray led the way for the A's going two for three, scoring the A's first run in the first inning after he singled and was brought home after a walk and a single by Hunter Armstrong.

The A's posted another run in second inning after Brandon Matthews singled and came home on a Ray single.

Raymond Moody pitched strong for the A's, but the Giants hit the board in the second inning when Skyler Mckeown doubled and came home on a Miller Owens single. But the A's added two more runs in the third and one in the fourth inning to secure the win.

For the A's, Johnathan Scott, Armstrong, Chance Williams and Bubba Talbert also scored a run after being walked.

For the Giants, Wyatt Anderson and Owens also scored after reaching base.

Braves 16, Devil Rays 4

It was a tough opening day for the Devil Rays as the Braves broke out the whoopin' stick and whalloped the Rays, 16-4.

The Rays jumped out on top of the Braves in the top of the first, scoring three runs. After a Justin Lee single he scored on a wild pitch. Cody Tesmer also scored in the inning after being walked as did Daryl Starks. The Braves responded though in the bottom of the inning scoring seven runs with Andrew Burleson, Dylan McNaughton, Stephen Till, Darious Howard, Kendrick Thomas, Bud Thagard and Taylor Loftin each touching home plate in the inning.

The Braves added seven more runs in the second to secure the win.

Cardinals 6, Cubs 4

In the nightcap the Cardinals notched their first win on the season, but it wasn't until the late innings before the game was decided, with the Cards getting the win, 6-4.

The Cubs drew first blood in the top of the first when Jerome Cook drew a base on balls and scored after Charlie Schofield was thrown out at second base trying to stretch a single.

The Cards responded in the bottom of the inning scoring three runs of their own to get a lead they would never relinquish. Gray Vinson led off the inning with a single followed by Brandon Smith who tripled and Ryan Smith who doubled and scored on an error. Tucker Harrell and Trevor Womack also crossed home plate for the Cardinals late in the game.

The Cubs picked up two runs from Mitch Young, one in the second and one in the fourth. Schofield also scored a run in the sixth inning after reaching base on a walk.
