The Greenville Area Fine Arts League held its 2003 Spring Fine Arts Show and Sale last week at the downtown branch of the Whitney Bank.

The show featured the works of various local artists using a variety of artistic mediums.

This year’s Jennie V. Poole Award (Best of Show) winner was Ceil Hamilton for her water color called &uot;City Scene.&uot;

Other winners were, Oils and Acrylic: 1st place – Cynthia Dahlstrom – &uot;Dora of Cave Creek&uot;, 2nd place – Ceil Hamilton – &uot;Angel&uot;, 3rd place – Jean Cook – &uot;St. Elizabeth Catholic Church&uot;, 4th place – tie – Megan Schofield and Kayla Lee.

Water Color: 1st place – Ceil Hamilton – &uot;Boy With Long Hair&uot;, 2nd place – Ceil Hamilton – &uot;Two Girls Dancing&uot;, 3rd place – Janis Odom – &uot;Sarah in Hat&uot;, 4th place – Megan Schofield.

Pastels, Charcoal and Pen & Ink: 1st place – T.K. Lee – &uot;Rabbit&uot;, 2nd place – Jean Cook – Horse Named Sam&uot;, 3rd place – Mary Crole – &uot;Sarah in Hat&uot;, 4th place – Mary Macks.

Photographs: 1st place – P.S. Davis – &uot;Greenville in Detail Series&uot;, 2nd place – Cecil Folds – &uot;Water Fall&uot;, 3rd place – P.S. Davis – &uot;Old Friends&uot;.

Crafts, Pottery and Sculpture: 1st place – Cynthia Dahlstrom – &uot;Koshari Clown&uot;, 2nd place – Cynthia Dahlstrom – &uot;Dragon Fly Lady&uot;, 3rd place – Kayla Lee – &uot;Fairy&uot;.

The winners were selected by two &uot;out-of-town&uot; judges on Thursday. The show was open to the public, Thursday from 1 to 4:30 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The show was forced to close early due to inclement weather.

The sponsors for this year’s show were All Occasion Florist, Bates House of Turkey, Camellia City Florist, Grayson’s Gift Shop, Elizabeth Wilson Florist, Greenville Shoe Shop, Forget-Me-Not Florist, Murphy’s Clothing Store, The Pineapple, Preister’s Pecan Company, Russell Stover, Thomas Sanderson Antiques, Vintage and Walker Business Supplies.

The art show traditionally has been held at the Whitney Bank, but due to the new Hwashin tenants taking possession of the office spaces this month, the show is moving next door to a new &uot;permanent&uot; facility in the old Camellia Realty office building. Some of the artwork featured in the Spring Art Show will be on display this week in the new location.
