Greenville no#110;hits Highland Home

BRANTLEY n Greenville pitchers Aaron Callen and Brantley McKeown combined to nonhit Highland Home 10n0 in the first round of the Dixie Youth subndistrict tournament Wednesday night.

&uot;Our pitchers delivered a nonhitter and the opponent only put five balls into play, which gave our defense a pretty easy night," coach Steve Lee said. "I know the tournament will bring a larger challenge to us before it's over, but not one I believe we can't handle.&uot;

Callen faced eight batters in the first two innings and struck out four. McKeown worked the final two innings, facing seven batters and striking out four. Callen picked up the win.

Trent Jones paced the offense for Greenville as he went 2nforn2 at the plate with two singles and two RBI. Jeffrey Stead also finished with two hits and had one RBI.

&uot;We were fundamentally sound and got to play all of our players,&uot; Lee said. &uot;We look forward to coming together with our bats as well as our sound defense.

Troy whips Luverne

The Troy American AllnStars banged out seven runs in the fifth and scored nine more in the sixth to capture a 16n2 win over Luverne in the first round of the Dixie Youth subndistrict tournament.

Chad Free smashed a twonrun homer in the first inning, but that would be all the offense Luverne could produce.

Pitcher Cliffton Brady picked up the win for Troy with six strikeouts. He also cracked a threenrun home run, a single and drove in three runs. Chance Shaver added two singles.
