The World War II monument now stands next to Greenville City Hall, although it remains covered until its official dedication Monday morning.

During that program that begins at 10 a.m., those in attendance will watch two fly-overs.

The first fly-over will occur at 10 a.m. with vintage aircraft making the loop over Commerce Street and City Hall.

The type of aircraft to be used was still unknown Friday, but it will likely be from the World War II era.

&uot;We don’t really know what type of plane they plan to use yet,&uot; said Gene Hardin. &uot;It should be a good show though.&uot;

Following the vintage aircraft at 11 a.m. will be four F-16 jets from Eglin Air Force base. The jets will fly up and down Commerce Street before moving on to another destination.

&uot;They have a lot of other places to go,&uot; said Hardin. &uot;We will only have them for a little while, but it should be fun to watch.&uot;

The biggest event of the day will come when the World War II monument is unveiled. There will be several guests in attendance to address the crowd and talk about the monument.

&uot;The mayor will give a short speech and a few other people will talk,&uot; said Hardin. &uot;Then Vice-Admiral Lewis Crenshaw Jr. will dedicate the monument.&uot;

Crenshaw was in the Pentagon during the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001.

J.F. Frake, a former fighter pilot, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Jack Williams will give the Veteran’s response.

Putting the monument together took a lot of hard work from a lot of people.

Some of those who helped make the monument happen will also be in attendance to help with the program.

&uot;The Fort Dale Fourth and Fifth graders will be on hand to pass out flags to the people,&uot; said Hardin. &uot;They helped to raise a lot of money over the years and we appreciate them and all who helped.&uot;

When the time comes to unveil the monument all of the World War II veterans in attendance will pull the rope to unveil the monument.

Following the unveiling there will be a reception in the lobby of City Hall.

Hardin asked that people be reminded that parking for the event may be difficult.

&uot;Parking will be cut off from Commerce Street at the Post Office to South Pine Street,&uot; said Hardin. &uot;We wanted to do something to get the elderly as close as we could and that was the best way we could think of to do it. We just want people to be aware of that.&uot;
