Tuesday’s runoff will answer almost all questions regarding the makeup of the next Butler County Commission.

The Districts One and Three picture will be much clearer.

On Tues. June 29 voters of two districts will again go to the polls to decide who they wish to represent them in November.

Probate Judge Steve Norman spent Friday working on voting machines to be sure everything would be ready when the voters came to the polls.

Norman said the voting machines were among the final preparations that needed to be made.

&uot;This is it,&uot; said Norman. &uot;We are just getting these machines ready and getting them to the polling places. That is the business at hand right now.&uot;

Norman said everyone was throwing in to make sure everything went smoothly.

&uot;The absentee manager is getting his list prepared and the registrar is going to go over his list and compare information on absentee applications to the information they have in the voter registration to make sure they all jive,&uot; said Norman. &uot;I’m just trying to get these voting machines ready.&uot;

Norman said everything should be ready when the time comes.

&uot;It should be no big deal,&uot; said Norman. &uot;We have plenty of time before Tuesday. Everything should be ready.&uot;

After the runoff the commission puzzle will be all but solved.

There will be two exceptions.

&uot;In November there will be only two Commission races that will have opposition,&uot; said Norman. &uot;That will be District 2 and District 1.&uot;

Norman said these two districts were the only ones to receive opposition outside of the Democratic Party.

&uot;It’s only District 1 and 2,&uot; said Norman. &uot;District 2 has an independent and in District 1 there is a Republican.&uot;

Tom Crenshaw will run as an independent, opposing current District 2 Commissioner Jesse McWilliams.

In the District 1 race Jerry Hartin will run as a Republican against the winner of Tuesday’s District 1 runoff.

Hartin will face either Gary Hanks or Margaret Pierce for the District 1 spot in November.

The second runoff, between District 3 Commissioner Frank Hickman and Gene Gibson, will face no opposition in November.

Norman said all other elections in November would be on a larger scale.

&uot;Those will be the only two as far as the commission in November,&uot; said Norman. &uot;All the other elections will be presidential and in the Alabama Supreme Court.&uot;

Norman said the biggest thing is getting people to the polls.

&uot;We can’t stress that enough,&uot; said Norman. &uot;We want to take every opportunity we can to tell people to get out and vote.&uot;

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. to accommodate all voters’ schedules.
