Greenville High School is getting what it asked for.

The Tigers, who are hosting an eight-team Thanksgiving tournament beginning Monday, are set to square off with some of the area’s top teams.

“Having coached (basketball) under Coach (Earnest) Hill at Spanish Fort, I learned that if you want to be the best you have to play the best,” Greenville head coach Richard Kelly said. “That’s what we want, and we’re certainly getting what we asked for. These are some of the best teams in south Alabama.”

The three-day tournament will feature Escambia County, Sidney Lanier, Hillcrest of Evergreen, Booker T. Washington, Monroe County, Calhoun and J.F. Shields.

“There’s going to be a lot of quality basketball played over those three days,” Kelly said.

Each of the eight teams is guaranteed at least two games. Play is slated to begin at 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday with the championship game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Greenville will open the tournament Monday at 8:30 p.m. against J.F. Shields. If the Tigers win, they will play at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. If they lose they will play at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Admission is $5 per day.
