Ivan#039;s inferno

Many people thought this fire on Country Club Drive was burning out of control early Monday morning as a column of black smoke billowed to the sky.

However, it was a house that the Greenville Fire Department agreed to burn to help a property owner out.

According to Chief Mike Phillips, the home was heavily damaged by trees in Hurricane Ivan and was condemned.

Firemen kept the fire under control from various points around the house.

Firefighter Demetrius Boggan sprays water into where the front door of the home used to be.

So this fire was under control before it ever began.
