Have you ever been interested in learning about what goes on behind the scenes in the TV and film industry, but didn’t have the funds or the time to travel out to California or New York?

Then you are in luck. On June 25, a TV and film seminar is coming right here to the Camellia City featuring guest speakers experienced in the industry.

The day long event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be held at the Greenville YMCA. The cost of the seminar is $40 when participants pre-register by June 18; at the door registration is $60.

All funds raised will go to the YMCA.

&uot;This is an amazing opportunity not given to many areas for those who are interested in the industry. They can find out first hand the business side – what to expect – and how to survive and thrive in the industry,&uot; said Lori Cummings, a producer for Alabama Public Television and one of the scheduled presenters at the seminar.

Topics will include ‘Writing for TV and Film’; ‘Acting for Television and Film’;

TV News Production and Reporting’ and ‘How to Put Together a Proposal for a Film or TV Show.’

A one-hour lunch break at noon will allow participants to either brown-bag it or go out to one of the area restaurants. All those attending the seminar will need to bring their own pad and pens for taking notes.

Slated speakers include, among others, entertainment attorney Fred Purchis, former writer for &uot;The Waltons&uot; and &uot;Roseanne&uot; and executive producer for several TV shows; Tracee Brock, news producer for WSFA; Art Douglas, executive producer for a major motion picture, and Cummings.

Cummings and Y Director Amanda Phillips have been putting their heads together to come up with ideas to raise funds for the new Y facility.

The upcoming seminar is just one of the ideas in the works, and it’s an absolute bargain for those who choose to attend, said Cummings.

&uot;This same seminar would cost somewhere around $500-600 anywhere else. These speakers are now based here in Alabama and they are trying to build up the film industry in this state. They are coming to Greenville for free, both to promote the industry and to help our YMCA,&uot; Cummings explained.

The APTV producer says the event will be perfect for teenagers and adults.

Who knows – someone you know, even you, might just get a shot at fame.

&uot;Fred and Art are both executive producers for films that will be shot in Alabama – and they are always looking for talent. You never know…talent can be discovered anywhere, including Greenville,&uot; added Cummings.

&uot;We are thrilled that Lori has set this up for us and we hope this will draw a lot of people on the 25th,&uot; said Phillips.

According to Cummings, this is just the beginning of filmdom for the city.

"It's a prep for next year - we are actually going to have a film festival where students can enter films," she said.
