McGee, Thompson, Newton team up for title

The trio of Steve McGee, Malcolm Thompson and Pete Newton came away with top honors on Saturday during the annual Cambrian Ridge Customer Appreciation golf tournament.

The three-member team, finished with a net score of 47.2, while the second-place team finished a half-point off the pace.

The second-place team included Scott Sikes, Bo Sikes and Jimmy Gardner.

There were 33 three-man teams to play in the event. The winners received an annual pass good for the entire Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The second-place team won trail cards for the entire trail.

Pensacola's Jack Slocomb and his partner David Branch finished 24-under par to win the Championship A division of the 2-man scramble at the Greenville Country Club on Saturday.

Slocomb is the father of Heath Slocomb, who plays on the PGA Tour.

Slocomb and Broach managed to nip Rick Carden and Jeff Burroughs by one stroke. The duo of Todd Norman and Tommy Ryan Jr. finished 18-under par for third.

The team of Steve and Paul Norman won the Championship B division in a card match after tying with Josh McLendon and Brett Dorner at 13-under par.

Cody Wesley and Bill Lewis shot finished 11-under par for third place.

Gene Allen and Ward Thigpen finished 8-under to win the First Flight. They held off the team of Michael Norman and Larry White, who finished two shots off the pace for second place.

Kenny Perdue and Ed Sims finished third.

Josh Beverly and Justin Kimbro finished 4-under par to win the Second Flight title.

They held off Larry Philpot and Tommy Monk by one shot. Mark Landers and Glenn Majors finished third at 2-under.
