After giving the Eagles of Pleasant Home a sound whipping Friday night, 56-7, the undefeated Bulldogs will now travel to Butler County to take on the undefeated Tigers of McKenzie in region action.

“We don’t have any injuries right now; everybody’s dressing out, so that’s good,” Brantley head coach David Lowery said.

“McKenzie has a lot of speed, and they’re playing really well this year,” he said. “We’ll have to be prepared for all areas of the game—offensive, defensive, and special teams—because Coach (Miles) Brown will be ready for us.”

The Bulldogs did what they’ve been doing all season long last Friday night—winning.

Senior standout Anthony Gulley started the evening off right with a 68 yard opening kickoff return for the first touchdown of the night. Britt Barnes’ point-after attempt was good, and the Bulldogs started off with an early 7-0 lead.

The Bulldogs scored quickly and often as they kept the Eagles to an almost shut-out position, until the Eagles scored in the fourth quarter.

Gulley added three more touchdowns for the night, one on a 67-yard punt return, a 35-yard pass from Quarterback Chase Hall, and another TD that he ran in from 25 yards out.

Sophomore running back Devontay Porter added another score on a 10-yard rush, and junior Tory Upshaw added two TD catches, one for 45 yards and one for 12. Senior running back Stephen Walker also added six points to the board for the Bulldogs.

QB Chase Hall was 9 for 9 and 137 yards for three touchdowns Friday night.

Also, the Bulldog defense added a safety to round out the scoring.

Lowery said that everyone got in some playing time, especially during the third and fourth quarters.

Defensive leaders for the night were sophomore Michael Walker with 11 tackles, Anthony Gulley with 7 tackles and one fumble recovery, and junior Cameron Wright with five tackles and one fumble recovery.

Britt Barnes was 6-8 with the PATs, and he racked up 5 tackles and one fumble recovery.

Adam Hill had one interception, and junior Jesse Haveard had four tackles and one tackle for loss.

Brantley’s Gulley totaled 216 yards Friday night on two carries, two receptions, a kickoff return and one punt return. For the season, Gulley leads with 585 yards rushing on 28 carries, 382 yards for 11 receiving, four punt returns for 163 yards, and two kickoff returns for 146 yards.

Gulley has racked up a total of 19 touchdowns for the season so far, and that speed will be needed Friday night as the Bulldogs meet up with undefeated McKenzie in region action. The Bulldogs have won the last 46 region games in a row.

“We’re going to try to keep doing what we’ve been doing,” Lowery said. “We’re just going to have to do it a little better this week.”
