The Luverne Tigers made a big showing last Friday night as they came out against T.R. Miller, but it turned out to be not quite enough as the Tigers from Brewton came away with a 14-13 win.

Luverne’s Justin Ray put the first points on the board as he scored on a one-yard run during the first quarter. Adam Foster came on and added the PAT for a Luverne 7-0 lead.

The hometown Tigers kept the ball rolling as Ryan McGhee added a second touchdown on a 29-yard pass from Quarterback Chad Free. However, Foster missed the PAT, but the Tigers were up 13-0 going into the second half.

T.R. Miller came out during the second half with a different mindset, however, as they scored their first points of the night during the third quarter on an 8-yard run. The PAT was good, and T.R. Miller had cut the Tigers’ lead to 13-7.

In the fourth quarter, they added another score, this time coming on a 69-yard run. The PAT was good, and T.R. Miller took the lead and the win, 14-13.

The leading rusher for Luverne was Chad Free with 152 yards. Free also had 54 yards in the air.

Leading the Tiger defense was Desmond Harrell with five tackles and one interception.

This week, Luverne faces a 5-2 Bayside Academy.

“They’re a good football team,” LHS head coach Les Sanders said. “We’ll have to work hard, but I believe we can bring home a win.”

The Luverne Tigers are now 4-3 for the season and have a 4-1 region record.

The Tigers travel to Bayside Friday night for more region action. Game time is 7 p.m.
