The Georgiana softball team picked up their first win of the season with an 11-0 romp over the Frisco City Whippets.

Anna Nelson was dominating on the mound for the Panthers, striking out 13 and not giving up a hit.

Sha’Kayla Mixon came through with a big hit for Georgiana with a three-RBI double in the second inning.

“Kannesha Nept also did a great job for us at catcher,” said head coach Michael Spencer. “She kept everything in front of her, and she also had a bunch of hits.”

One early-season obstacle for the Panthers has been dealing with injuries.

Katie Nixon and Iesha McCall went down with ankle injuries in the first game, so younger players have been coming off the bench to fill holes.

Georgiana will now have a break in action before the next series of games.

“We’ve got 12 days off, and we need those to get some players back from injuries,” Spencer said. “Katie may be able to come back for us.”

However, the injury situation didn’t get any better for Georgiana against Frisco City, when the team learned after the game that outfielder Thelsea Scott will miss playing time because of a fractured wrist.

The win moved the Panthers to 1-0 in area play.
