Sallie Maude Davis

DAVIS, Ms. Sallie Maude, 98, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at her home in Bradleyton, AL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Newton Davis; her parents, James Alfred Cook and Fleta Margaret Ulm Cook; her daughter, Margaret Robinson; her brother, William Warren Cook; and her sister, Agnes Lansdon. She is survived by four children: Ms. Carolyn Russell, LaPine, AL., Rev. Bill Davis, Wetumpka, AL., Dr. James H. Davis, Celebration, FL., and Mr. Jack D. Davis, Bradleyton, AL.; a sister, Ms. Florence Worthington, Bradleyton, AL.; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great- grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Dr. Mickey Castleberry and Rev. Parker Bowen officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Elizabeth Turner Lisenby

LISENBY, Mrs. Elizabeth Turner, 90, a resident of Luverne died Saturday, March 14, 2009. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 16, at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Jackson officiating. Interment followed in the Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mrs. Lisenby was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lisenby and a son, Mike Lisenby. Survivors include three children, Beth (Doug) Brown of Luverne, Pat (Angela) Lisenby of Prattville and Tom Lisenby of Mobile; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Jeff Lisenby, David Lisenby, Lance Lisenby, Andrew Kilcrease, Mark Holland and Ed Beasley. The family would like to express a special thanks to all Mrs Elizabeth’s caregivers, Mary Berdeaux, Annie Ruth Crenshaw, Barbara Brooks, Martha Harris and Hospice Advantage of Troy.

Katherine Johnston Sasser

Mrs. Katherine Johnston Sasser passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2009. She was born August 27, 1928 in Midway, Ala., and was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Katherine Anthony Johnston.

A memorial service was held for Mrs. Sasser in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark, on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Ray Jacoby, Montgomery, and her son, James T. (Jim) Sasser, Columbus, Georgia; three granddaughters, Katie and Martha Sasser, Montgomery; Ann Carter Sasser, Fairhope; two step-grandsons, Dylan Jacoby, Birmingham; Matthew Jacoby, Nashville; her brother, Ted Johnston and wife Phyllis, Birmingham. Mrs. Sasser grew up in Brantley and attended Huntingdon College and Troy State University, earning her M.A. from The University of Alabama. The majority of her adult life was spent in Ozark, where she taught business education at Carroll High for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling with friends, bridge, cooking for her family and was an avid reader. In 2000 she moved to Birmingham and then to Montgomery to be close to her daughter and son-in-law both times. She died in the comfort of her home in Montgomery surrounded by loved ones, including a devoted team of caretakers.

Richard Frost Bryan, Sr.

BRYAN, Mr. Richard Frost, Sr., 95, a resident of Luverne died Monday, March 23, 2009. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Liberty Congregational Church with Rev. and Mrs. Woody Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mr. Bryan was preceded in death by his wives, Marion Wallace Bryan and Mary Ellen Weldon Bryan and his son, Richard F. Bryan, Jr. Survivors include three children, Diane (Jerry) Short of Ft. Myers, FL, Rhonda (Darsie) Rogers of Notasulga, and Betty (Jim) Belden of Wetumpka; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dixie Taylor of Linden and Patsy Morgan of Brantley; nieces, Wilda (Fred) Brown of Linden and Barbara Bryan of Jackson Hole, WY; nephews, Jack (Harriet) Bryan of Englewood, FL and Joel (Joan) Taylor of Pelham.

The body will lie in repose at the church for 30 minutes prior to services.
