The 16th Annual Festival at the Well will be held in the town of Glenwood on Saturday, May 16. It is traditionally held on the third Saturday in May.

The historic flowing well in the center of this community is the site of the event, which begins at 9 a.m., with a parade through the center of town.

Activities will be ongoing all throughout the day and into the evening with a community street dance beginning at 8 p.m. Tables are available at the street dance, and limited booth space is also still available for the festival.

Admission price is $2; after 5 p.m., the admission price is $4.

Live stage entertainment throughout the day will include local country, gospel and bluegrass music as well as dance entertainment. Harlan Burton, The Shephard Family and Cindy Preston along with the She-Bang Cloggers are just a few of the local talents who will be performing for the audiences.

The Flowing Well grounds will be filled with arts and crafts booths, food booths and plenty of games for the children, including the car rides and the Moon Walk.

This year, a cake walk “Around the Well” will begin at noon.

The Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department will cater smoked barbecue, and several valuable door prizes will be awarded throughout the day to those who are present, according to Steve Holmes, Festival committee member.

Festival-goers will enjoy the Sweet Shop, filled with cakes, pies, brownies and an assortment of other treats for sale.

One of the biggest events during the day will be the children’s beauty pageants for girls and boys ages six months to 11 years, which begins at 10 a.m. Parents can register their children for the pageants now up until 9 a.m. the morning of the festival.

Proceeds from the Festival go to Flowing Well Foundation, Inc. for the primary purpose of providing cash scholarships for students who have roots originating in the Glenwood, Ala., community, Holmes said.
