Tommie King

KING, Mr. Tommie, 83, a native of Luverne, AL and a resident of Gulf Shores, AL, died Monday, June 15, 2009. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. William Leverette and Rev. Robert Warren officiating.

Interment followed, with Military Honors, at Darien Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. King was a member of St. Andrews by the Sea Church in Gulf Shores and was an active member of the German Club of Mobile. He retired from the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. King is preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Nellie Mathews King and two sisters, Myra King Thompson and Ida Mae King. Survivors include three sisters, Ovada Flowers of Gainsville, FL, Madeline McGinty of Neptune Beach, FL, and Carrie Thaggard of Montgomery; two brothers, John David King, Jr. and Franklin D. King, both of Goshen; special friend, Jim Boutwell of Gulf Shores; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Active and honorary pallbearers were nephews, Lamar Thompson, Robert Moore, David King, Danny Lewis, Mark McGinty, Wade McGinty, David McGinty, Robert McGinty, Tommy Thaggard, Tim Thaggard and Chris Thaggard.

Special thanks to Dr. S.P. Walker and the staff of Crenshaw Community Hospital for their concern and loving care.

Mae Anna Griffin

Funeral services for Mrs. Mae Anna Griffin will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 1 p.m. from Highland Home High School Auditorium with Bro. James Daniel officiating. Burial will follow in Springhill Church of Christ Cemetery, Hudson Funeral Services, Greenville, Ala., directing.

Mrs. Griffin will lie in repose Friday, June 19, at Luverne Mortuary from 1 p.m. until family hours starting at 6-8 p.m.

Mrs. Griffin was born June 11, 1926, in Crenshaw County to the union of the late Mrs. Callie and Mr. Hermon Bones. She united with the Springhill Church of Christ at an early age and served faithfully until God called her home.

Sister Griffin was married to the late Mr. Cephus Griffin, Sr. on June 11, 1949. To that union six children were born. One son, Johnny Les (Linda Gail) Griffin, preceded him in death.

Sister Griffin departed this life on Saturday, June 13, 2009. She will forever be loved and remembered by her family members: two sons, Mr. Cephus (Brenda) Griffin, Jr., Miami, Fla.; Mr. Arthur Mack Griffin, Luverne; three daughters, Ms. Dorothy Mae Griffin, Ms. Christine Griffin, and Mrs. Linda (Michael) Jones, Luverne; one sister, Ms. Eula Tillman, Miami, Fla.; one brother, Mr. Jessie Lee Bones, Luverne; three brothers and one sister proceeded her in death.

She also leaves to cherish her memories two brothers-in-law, Mr. Charlie Griffin and Mr. Ledell Griffin, both of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eamestine Bones, Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Versie Morrow of Birmingham, Ala.; 15 grandchildren, two of which proceeded her in death, 16 great-grandchildren; a devoted granddaughter, Michelle Jones; a dear friend, Ms. Evelyn Faye Stroud; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Laura Jane Miller

MILLER , Laura Jane, age 48, a resident of Miramar Beach, Florida, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 2 p.m. at The Salem Church of Christ with the Rev. Joe Leverette officiating. Mrs. Miller will lie in repose from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow in the Salem Church of Christ Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home of Greenville, Ala., directing.

A visitation was held Wednesday, June 17, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include: mother, Mary May Faulk, Honoraville, Ala.; brother, Bill (Tammy) Faulk, Honoraville, Ala.; nephew, Jesse Dillon Faulk, Honoraville, Ala.; grandmother, Mattie L. May, Lapine, Ala.; uncle, C.J. (Betty) Faulk, Honoraville, Ala.; aunts, Betty Faulk, Honoraville, Ala., Grace Daniels, Honoraville, Ala., Syble (Tommy) Stringer, Atlanta, Ga.; uncles, Bill (Loraine) May, Dallas,Texas, Kenneth D. May, Lapine, Ala., Mike (Jackie) May, Grady, Ala.; special friends, Mark Panageas, Bryan McArdle and Mark Miller.

Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her dad, Jesse Faulk, Jr., grandparents, Jesse and Eva Faulk and Edward C. May.
