After opening the season with five straight wins, the seventh-ranked Eagles now find themselves on a two-game losing skid.

Fort Dale’s latest loss came on Monday when a last-second shot lifted Crenshaw Christian Academy to a 43-41 win in Greenville.

Fort Dale’s Chip Taylor tied the see-saw game at 41-all with 34.4 seconds to play when he hit his only 3-pointer of the contest.

CCA’s Alex Lukic bested Taylor’s late-game heroics with a jumper in the lane with just 1.2 seconds remaining to play to give the Cougars the lead.

FDA’s Taylor Windham got one last look at the basket, but was unable to get the shot to fall as the buzzer sounded.

FDA (5-2) was led by Taylor’s 16 points.

Ryan Burkett added 12 points on the strength of a 3-for-6 effort from beyond the arc.

On Saturday, the Eagles dropped a 47-37 decision to Lee-Scott Academy.

Taylor scored a team-high 11 points.

Fort Dale hosted Lowndes Academy on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.

 

Lady Eagles rout Crenshaw Christian

No. 9 Fort Dale Academy cruised to a 40-16 win over Crenshaw Christian Academy Monday night.

Anne Matthews led the Lady Eagles with 22 points. She was 6-for-8 from beyond the arc, 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and 6-for-14 from the field.

Theresa Scott scored eight points in the win.

On Monday, the Lady Eagles (4-3) were defeated 45-15 by Lee-Scott Academy.

Samantha Smith led Fort Dale with four points. Caroline Snellgrove scored three points in the loss.

 

Greenville tops Luverne

Greenville High School edged Luverne High School 55-48 Monday night in Luverne.

After Greenville raced out to a 32-19 halftime lead, Luverne rallied to outscore the Tigers 19-6 in the third period and knot the game at 38-38.

“They pressed right out of the half, and it gave us some problems,” GHS head coach Richard Kelly said.

“We lost the third period and that’s something we must fix.”

Greenville rebounded to outpace Luverne 17-10 during the final period of play to secure the win.

“We played hard and fast,” Kelly said.

“We have got to get better fundamentally, but I am proud of these boys.”

DeBryant Crenshaw led the Tigers with 14 points and six assists.

Zac Smith added 10 points in the win, including a 3-pointer with 1:00 to play that extended Greenville’s lead to seven points.

Greenville hosted Hillcrest-Evergreen on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.

 

Panthers take second at holiday tourney

Straughn High School topped Georgiana School 52-45 Saturday in the championship game of the Straughn High School Christmas Shootout.

The sixth-ranked Panthers (7-1) advanced to the title game by defeating Red Level High School 48-46 on Friday.

Jacquez Payton led the Panthers with 18 points, while Justin Oikle scored 10 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

K.J. Lawrence led Red Level with 17 points.

 

GMS topples Marshall

Greenville Middle School scored a 39-29 win over Marshall Middle School Dec. 3.

Moeisha Brown, Raneiyah Smith and Adrienna Taylor each scored 10 points in the victory.
