After making a statement with a 52-6 whooping of Prattville Christian last week, Fort Dale is now preparing for a showdown with Glenwood.

The Gators lost in overtime last week to Marengo, but FDA coach Speed Sampley expects a solid game from them.

“They’re a young team, but they’re traditionally a good team,” he said. “They’re running a double-wing offense, which is different from what they did last year.”

The Eagles will see a 3-5 defense from Glenwood that should seem familiar — it’s the same scheme Fort Dale runs.

Despite the blowout win in the opener, Sampley said the Eagles have a number of things to work on this week.

“I told them that it doesn’t make any difference about last week. We’ve got to have a good day today. Our offensive line blocked well, but we still missed some assignments,” he said. “We also gave up a couple of sacks.”

“On the defensive side, we’ve got to make sure we’re tackling and getting people around the football,” Sampley added.

One thing that is a concern is swine flu.

With a number of students throughout the county missing school, Sampley said the team is taking precautions to prevent it spreading to the football team.

“It’s the kind of thing that could wipe us out and not have a team by Friday,” he said.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Fort Dale.
