Municipal elections around the county are set for next Tuesday, although Luverne and Dozier are the only towns with active races.

The mayor and city council races are uncontested in Petrey, Rutledge, Glenwood and Brantley.

In Luverne, incumbent Wanda Williams is facing Jerry Sipper for the District 3 city council seat.

The polling place in Luverne will be the County Courthouse.

In Dozier, Karen Davis, William L. Hester and Anne Holland are all vying for the office of mayor.

District 1 candidates are Cynthia Doss, Marquita Davis, Emma Jane Ellison and Robert Thomas, while District 2 candidates are Roger Moody, Carlos “Buddy” Dean, Bobby Sims, Linda Hutto and Chelsea Hester.

The polling place in Dozier will be at City Hall.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“The municipalities are responsible for handling their own races,” said Probate Judge Jim Perdue, who also said that voters are required to show identification and no write-ins are allowed on the ballot.
