The Greenville Newspapers, Inc. team was named Boone Newsmedia 2023 Newsroom of the Year and Newsroom of the Quarter for December 2023. The achievement is a testament to the support of readers in Butler, Lowndes and Crenshaw counties as well as the team’s dedication to serving the communities in which their lives have established deep roots and long-lasting relationships.

The staff, whose combined efforts publish and distribute The Greenville Advocate, The Lowndes Signal and The Luverne Journal, celebrated the award with a luncheon and award ceremony at The Chicken Shack in Luverne on June 20. Each staff member expressed gratitude for the accolade, the result of their efforts to cover the people, places and events which are near and dear to the hearts of readers and to the newsroom team.

General Manager David Lovell leads the Greenville Newspapers team, which includes Regional Editor Lanell Downs Smith, Collections Manager Katie Till, Distributions Manager Tammie Morgan, Staff Reporters Amy Lewis and Haley Mitchell Godwin, Distributors Erica Knight and Brittany Morgan, and Intern Kris Harrell. The newsroom operates as an affiliate of Boone Newsmedia, under the direction of Senior Vice President Catherine Boone Hadaway, to implement the vision of a foundation laid by founder James B. Boone, Jr.

Team members have deep personal roots in the tri-county area. Some have families who have lived within Butler, Lowndes and Crenshaw county for many generations and others, who have moved to the area more recently, live, work, worship and send their children to school in Greenville, Luverne, Brantley, Georgiana, Lapine, Lowndesboro and Fostoria.

Local communities are the inspiration for everything the newsroom accomplishes. Our readers are important, the impetus behind every effort. From weekly newspapers to seasonal magazines and special sections, it’s all about you, our friends and neighbors.

Thank you for allowing us to cover your community news. We are honored to serve as your community newspaper. Achieving Newsroom of the Year is a reflection of our esteem for the communities we aim to highlight and a testimony to the support of our valued readers.
