One June 7, the Butler County Bama Club hosted its 7th annual Colin “Big C” MacGuire Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Cambrian Ridge. The event featured a 4-player scramble and concluded with an awards ceremony, cocktail party and dinner.

The tournament, and scholarship it funds, were established in 2017 in honor of Colin “Big C” MacGuire, who served as a student manager for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team in the 1970s under Coach Bear Bryant. Funds raised at the event contribute towards scholarships for students either attending or planning to attend the University of Alabama.

“All of the money raised stays local. That is important to me. Being able to see the fruits of your labor help students from Butler County go and pursue those dreams is very fulfilling,” said Jana Ealum, president of the Butler County Bama Club. “We have an amazing committee that helps pull this day together to make it a top-notch event.”

This year’s scholarship winners include recent high school graduates Alan Alvarez and Mason Pouncey as well as University of Alabama students Claire Hutson and Stirling Hamilton.

“I plan on going to the University of Alabama and studying kinesiology,” said Alvarez. “I just want to go into physical therapy to kind of still be around sports.”

“I am majoring in public relations, but I’m minoring in political science, so after college, I’m thinking about going to law school,” added Huston.

The Butler County Bama Club has already set the date for next year’s tournament on June 6, 2025. Save the date to join in supporting local students and honoring the legacy of Colin “Big C” MacGuire.
