Local “change makers” honored at 2023 Merit Awards

Life Changing Mission Outreach is hosting its 2023 Merit Awards fundraiser at Faulkner University on June 17, from 3-6 p.m. Local honorees include, Mr. Eugene Hudson, Evangelist Carolyn Griffin, and Ft. Deposit mayor, Jacqulyn Davison-Boone.

The ministry is a non-profit organization based in Montgomery. Founder and Executive director, Pastor Lashunda Brown said, “Properly honoring community ‘change makers’ is important because it highlights the good that is being done in our local communities and throughout the world by individuals from the River Region.All honorees have made exceptional impacts in their community and were nominated by someone they have inspired or influenced.”

Evangelist Carolyn Griffin, the founder and president of Warrior Ministries said, “It is an honor to be recognized in such a capacity.”

Griffin said that her love for God and his people is what keeps her active in the community. Her outreach aims to help incarcerated individuals and Griffin is committed to the welfare and mental health of all people in the community.

Mr. Eugene Hudson, of Hudson Funeral Home, has been servicing families in the community since 1956. Hudson said that the “trust” of the community has kept him in business all of these years. 

“Families know that they can depend on my staff and I, and the spirit of excellence we bring,” he said.

Jacqulyn Davison-Boone was elected as Fort Deposit’s first female mayor back in 2020, and continues working to move the town forward. She said that she wants to continue to be a servant, and treat everyone like family. 

“Everybody’s voice matters,” she said.

The awards ceremony is open to the public and is a semi-formal fundraiser event. Honorees will walk the red carpet at the banquet style gala and guests will enjoy live entertainment, a full course meal, a keynote address, and the presentation of awards.

All of the proceeds from ticket sales go to the Merit Awards and will help fund the various outreach initiatives and programs at the Life Changing Mission Outreach. Tickets are available for purchase from now until June 15 online at Eventbrite.com, or by calling (334) 207-9660.
