LBW offers CDL training in Georgiana

By Haley Mitchell Godwin

A partnership between the City of Georgiana, the City’s Industrial Development Board, and Lurleen B. Wallace (LBW) Community College has led to the establishment of a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Driver Training Program in Butler County.

Georgiana Mayor Frank Betterton and Industrial Development Board Chair, Lynn Harold Watson, along with David Hutchison, the Director of Butler County Commission for Economic Development (BCCED), are actively promoting the industrial building and the 20-acre site to potential manufacturing prospects but are delighted to offer the space temporarily for CDL training.

Betterton expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This is a great temporary use of the property until we attract a qualified manufacturing company. We are thrilled about the CDL Driving Program taking place in Georgiana.”

According to BCCED Director David Hutchison, there has been a high demand for licensed CDL drivers in Butler County for quite some time. Thanks to this collaborative effort with LBW and the City of Georgiana, this critical workforce development need will now be addressed.

Hutchison emphasized, “Workforce Development is a priority for us, and we are dedicated to it every day.”

Chad Sutton of LBW sees this program as a golden opportunity for individuals and businesses to obtain rapid credentials that can lead to high-demand and high-paying jobs.

Sutton described LBW’s program, stating, “Participants in the class will be trained in the skills required to successfully obtain a CDL license. If the participant demonstrates competency and passes the CDL exam administered by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency while adhering to federal guidelines, they will receive a commercial driver’s license.”

The CDL Training Program is conveniently located at the Georgiana IDB building on 384 Ebenezer Road. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Chad Sutton, Director of Workforce Development at LBWCC, via email at csutton@lbwcc.edu or by phone at 260.410.9290.
