The third annual Greenville Rotary Crawfish Boil was once again a success. Crawfish lovers united Friday night at the Butler County Fair Grounds for good food and great company.
The Greenville Rotarians began weeks ago preparing for their largest fundraiser of the year. Tickets went on sale close to a month prior to the event for $25 each and included all the crawfish one could eat until it was gone, beer and soft drinks.
Peige Josey, Greenville Rotary president, said 750 lbs. of crawfish were cooked and consumed during the event. Pip’s Seafood Market supplied the fresh crawfish for the boil. Rotarians worked throughout the day Friday preparing for the event and boiling crawfish, 80 lbs of sausage, potatoes, and corn for event goers.
Thirty cases of beer as well as soda and water were also consumed by attendees. More than 250 people attended the event.
Live music was provided by Two of a Kind throughout the event which kicked off at 5 p.m. and ended at 9 p.m. The 750 lbs. of crawfish were consumed before 8 p.m. but the beer and community fellowship continued until 9 p.m.
The money raised will be returned to the community through charity events. Previous supported events include the Greenville Area Arts Council, Butler County ROTC program, Greenville High School Band, Relay for Life, Safe Harbor, and the Greenville Police Department.
“Rotarians want to thank all of our sponsors,” Josey said. “Their support offsets our costs, which allows us to give more back to the community. Thank you to all our Camellia Girls and Chamber Pages who volunteered. They were a huge help and always represent our community respectfully. Thank you to everyone who purchased t-shirts. This event would not be a success without you.”
If you missed purchasing a t-shirt, stop by Sweet Heart Alabama on Commerce Street where they are still available for $25.
