Greenville welcomed a new meat and fish market Friday, March 25. An official ribbon cutting ceremony was held welcoming Pip’s Surf and Turf Seafood and Steak Market to the Greenville Chamber of Commerce and to downtown Greenville. Local business owners and customers gathered to welcome them and pick up fresh seafood for the weekend. The market is located at 402 E. Commerce Street between St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and Trustmark bank.
Matthew and Melissa Pipkin own and operate the business.
“My wife and I were sitting in the floor one morning watching a program “How Food Can Change America,” and we were talking about opening a business and what we could do here in Greenville and I mentioned a seafood house and the wheels started turning in her head and she got the idea,” Matthew said.
The mayor, Dextor McLendon, was the Pipkin’s next stop. Matthew said he wanted to rund the idea by McLendon and get his opinion on it.
“He said he thought it would do really well,” Matthew said.
The family set out in search of a location. Matthew said most of the rental property they looked at just wasn’t right.
“We found this place and fell in love with it,” he said. “It’s downtown and a beautiful building. We started remodeling and here we are.”
The market sales certified angus beef steak and burgers. They also carry pork chops, shrimp, crab legs, seasonings and more.
If you are looking to purchase shrimp, you may want to call ahead. The market has sold out of several items since opening. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
