Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Finally, the day McKenzie football fans have been waiting for — A new season, a new coach, and a new attitude is here.

The Red Level Tigers however, were in town to attempt to play spoiler but Coach Drew Luker and the home town Tigers were having none of that.

“Last week we got canceled, and the kids were disappointed with that. They were just ready to play this week,”   Coach Drew Luker said.

McKenzie would start the game on defense. Will McCullough would quickly force a fumble. After being kicked and tumbled around, the ball would end up out the back of the end zone for a McKenzie safety.

The first McKenzie touchdown would be a three-yard plunge by JaKarrie McPherson on the ensuing drive.

“The whole game we were running back by committee. There were three guys that carried the load for us offensively. McPhearson, Bo Daniels, and Adarius Davison,” Luker said.

Davison was the surprise of the game, leading the team in rushing with 152 yards and scoring 3 long touchdowns.

“He kind of surprised us with his performance. We knew he had some speed, and can strike fast. We just didn’t know he would have a game like that. It has excited us‚“ Luker said.

The McKenzie defense was also a high point.

“We played really good defensively. We were able to get to the quarterback a good bit and bring pressure. They really got after it; played with a lot of energy and intensity, and that‚Äôs what we preach in practice so I was really proud of those guys.‚“

Dale Lucas would lead the Tiger defense with 7 tackles and an interception.  In the end, The McKenzie Tigers would win this Tiger fight 50-12 and send the Red Level Tigers back down Highway 55 licking their wounds.
