The Greenville High School Lady Tigers, under first-year head coach Brandon Smith, have been steadily building momentum throughout the season.

This momentum culminated when they came out victorious from the annual Butler County Tournament, defeating McKenzie and avenging an earlier loss to Georgiana to take home the trophy.

The Lady Tigers defeated McKenzie 17 to 5 and beat Georgiana 6 to 0.

Smith said the win in the county tournament, particularly the win against Georgiana, was a “huge morale boost” for his squad.

“These girls have worked so hard to win the games we have won,” Smith said.

The area tournament is next Monday, May 30, and GHS will need to face down Brewbaker Tech and Charles Henderson to move on with their season.

The Lady Tigers have faced and lost both teams earlier in the regular season, but Smith says they have put in work and are prepared for the playoffs.

“We feel pretty good. The team is working hard, they know they have to trust the process, believe in it,” Smith explained, “We know we can beat them.”

The area tournament will be held in Troy.
