Both Trustmark locations in Greenville closed for several hours on Monday due to a bomb threat.

Each location was blocked off by the Greenville Police Department with assistance from the Butler County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn, around noon, the suspect called into the E-911 center and claimed another individual had placed explosives in the Trustmark bank locations in Greenville and Georgiana.

E-911 notified the Greenville and Georgiana police departments, who immediately responded.

“We went through our procedure on clearing the building,” Lovvorn explained, “and requested the help of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and had their bomb dog come down and do a secondary sweep of all the premises, inside and out, of all the banks.”

After being swept, the banks were re-opened.

Lovvorn said the suspect gave “reasons” for the threats in the E-911 call, and that the GPD has a “very good lead” and is working with FBI resources to find the suspect or suspects.
