The Fort Dale Eagle varsity teams were both successful against Monroe Academy Volunteers on Thursday night.  The girls won 54-23 and while the boys win was not quite as huge at 47-44, it was a much needed and hard-fought victory.

In the girls’ battle, the Eagles were led by a hard fighting defense and an aggressive offense. Anna Blake Langford, who scored 21 points, was helped out in the scoring by Lucy Bates and Tucker Whiddon who had 16 re-bounds .

The girls are the regional champions for the fifth year in a row and this win brings their record to 14 and 2 for the regular season so far.

Anna Blake Langford led with 21 points,7 rebounds and 1 assist; Lucy Bates with 11 points and 11 re-bounds; Madison Langford 5 points , 3 re-bounds; Alex Little with 5 points  and 3 assist; Caroline Wood with 5 points (one was a three pointer) and 1 re-bound ; Tucker Whiddon with 16 re-bounds and 6 assists.

They were 50 percent at the free throw line.

The varsity boys fought hard and stayed in the heat the whole game, but they came out on top at the end.

Their offense and defense played hard and was led by Luke Taylor with 19 points. They enjoyed a 9 point lead at one time in the game, but that was the only relief and was short lived.  The Volunteers overtook them in the second quarter, and it was back and forth throughout the rest of the game.

This win broke a drought for the Eagles who had suffered 7 consecutive losses and are closing in on the end of the season.

Stats:  Luke Taylor with 19 points, 16 re-bounds ; Michael LaCoq with 9 points, 6 re-bounds and 1 assist; Bryan Folds with 6 points, 5 re-bounds; Tripp Richardson with 6 points and 2 re-bounds.
