Hattie Baker Heartsill

 

Hattie Baker Heartsill, 65, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, died in a Montgomery Hospital Saturday, July 2.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 6, in Bethel United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jutson Flint and Rev. Gayle Woodard officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.  Burial followed in Panola Cemetery.  The family received friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home. Mrs. Heartsill is preceded in death by her son and two daughters.  She is survived by her husband, Dan Heartsill; daughter, Terrie Ann Baker Butts; grandson, Steven Butts; and one great-grandson.

 

Ina Jean Walker Peters

 

Ina Jean Walker Peters, 82, of Winnfield, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, June 23. Born Sunday, May 6, 1934, in Luverne, Alabama, she was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry Stephens Walker and Susan Jayroe Walker; husband, Dr. J. Paul Peters, Jr.; brother, Jerry S. Walker, Jr.; and a stillborn son. Mrs. Peters graduated from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. She worked as a teacher before her marriage and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Peters delighted in preparing Sunday and holiday meals for her family, taking trips to the beach and back to her home town in Alabama to visit with family and lifelong friends. She loved playing bridge with her friends and family and was an avid reader and baseball fan. Mrs. Peters played the piano and organ for numerous churches and events in her younger years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winnfield and enjoyed her years as a member of the Chancel Choir. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, James Paul Peters, III and Susan Peters Brewton, both of Winnfield, Louisiana; brother, Dr. Patrick Walker and wife Sandy of Luverne, Alabama; and her grandchildren, Lauren Brewton, Catherine Brewton, Morgan Brewton Vaughan and husband Patrick and Parker Brewton.
In honor of her wishes, Ina’s life was celebrated at a private memorial session on Tuesday, June 28. Interment followed at the Garden of Memories cemetery in Winnfield under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. The family would like to express their appreciation to Mark and Jennifer Shelton, Autumn Leaves Nursing Home and Winn Parish Medical Center for their unwavering care and compassion, and to Reverend Brad Franklin for his loving visits and prayerful support.

 

Jessie Marvin Johnson

 

Jessie Marvin Johnson, 94, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, June 29.  Funeral services for Mr. Johnson were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, from the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Nick Gaines officiating.  Interment followed in Rutledge Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.  Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Vela Mae Powell Johnson; two brothers; and one sister.  He is survived by his two children, Melanie Anne Johnson and Jeffrey Marvin Johnson, Sr., and grandson, Jeffrey Marvin Johnson, Jr.

 

Bonnie Harris Posey

 

Bonnie Harris Posey, 68, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, June 30.  Funeral services for Mrs. Posey were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, from the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Leverette officiating. Interment followed in Cool Springs Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.  Mrs. Posey was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Jackson Posey; parents, Elbert and Lessie Sexton Harris; sister, Allie Jane Harris; and three brothers, Gene Harris, Wilson Harris and Jimmy Harris. She is survived by her five children, Gerald (Renee) Kelley, Susan (Kenny) Frazier, Julie (Eland Beasley) Kelley, Stacy (Keenar) Kelley and Kevin (Alisha) Posey; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nora Harris; and three brothers, James (Grace) Harris, Kenneth (Sheila) Harris and Robert Harris. Active pallbearers were Lee Kelley, Brandon Frazier, Hunter Posey, Eiland Beasley, Allen McGough and Lamar Gray.
