McKenzie in the planning stages of Night of Champions event
In the July 29 edition of The Greenville Advocate, we reported that the McKenzie-hosted Meet the Tigers event would be held on Aug. 14. Instead, McKenzie School is in the planning stages of creating an event called Night of Champions, which would feature 7-on-7 action between current McKenzie athletes and alumni, but whether the event will be held is dependent upon alumni participation. The Advocate regrets the error.
Past, present and future may collide on the gridiron in McKenzie as the Tigers prepare to host a decidedly different type of 7-on-7 competition.
The team has spent the summer facing a number of local opponents in preparation for the coming season, but the Tigers’ biggest competition might be themselves.
McKenzie School is in the planning stages of hosting an all-new community event called Night of Champions, where fans will have an opportunity to meet varsity, junior varsity and peewee football players, cheerleaders, coaches, sponsors and others associated with the athletic program.
But the wrinkle in this year’s event is an alumni 7-on-7 competition, featuring decorated athletes of McKenzie’s history facing off against today’s crop of talent.
The event is not yet confirmed, as it is heavily dependent on alumni participation.
Team captains have been chosen for the game, including Sattrick Rudolph, Shannon Shufford, Calvin Henderson and Terrance Clemons.
It costs $20 to sign up and play in the competition, and participants will receive a T-shirt.
The Greenville Advocate will update the story with further information as it is made available.
