The single-elimination tournament will feature six teams, including Georgiana, McKenzie, Greenville, Hillcrest, Red Level and Luverne.

Georgiana head softball coach Ezell Powell is overseeing the weekend tournament, and said that the gathering is a great early opportunity for the area’s junior varsity softball teams to knock a little rust off.

“Everybody wants an opportunity to get out and play,” Powell said.

“As long as we are improving and focusing on what we’re doing, I’m pleased regardless of the outcome.”

Powell’s junior varsity squad is perfect on the season thus far, taking both games in a double-header last weekend against the neighboring McKenzie Lady Tigers.

“We played hard, and our pitching has improved,” Powell added.

“We didn’t hit like we wanted to, but we hit well enough to win both games.”

McKenzie will kick the tournament off with a  match against Red Level at 9 a.m.

Greenville will face Luverne at 10:20 a.m., followed by a rematch between Georgiana and McKenzie at 11:40 a.m.

Greenville will then face Hillcrest at 1 p.m., Red Level will play Georgiana at 2:20 p.m. and, finally, Hillcrest will go up against Luverne at 3 p.m.
