Georgiana School sophomore guard Jacquez Payton was named to the Alabama Sportswriters Association all-state basketball team on Sunday.

The Georgiana standout earned honorable mention honors.

“It’s a huge honor to be nominated as one of the best players in the state, especially as a sophomore,” said Georgiana head coach Kirk Norris. “I am proud of Jacquez for the season he had and he is very deserving of the honor. It’s also a testament to his teammates and the way they play together as a team, even though he received the honor.”
