Eagles down Rebels in season opener

A 15-point third period helped the Eagles pull away from Lowndes Academy Monday night.

The Eagles (1-0) led 19-11 at the end of the first period, but the Rebels outpaced Fort Dale 15-10 in the second period to cut the lead to 29-26 at the break. The 15-point third period allowed Fort Dale to extend its lead to 10 points heading into the final period of play where the Eagles outpaced the Rebels 14-6 to seal the win.

Chip Taylor paced Fort Dale with 23 points on the strength of a 7-for-17 performance from the field. He also pulled down a team-best six rebounds.

Ryan Burkett added 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting, including a 2-for-2 performance from beyond the arc.

Hayden Davis chipped in six points for the Eagles, who will be back in action Monday when they travel to Cecil to take on Macon-East Montgomery Academy. The game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
