More jobs are on the horizon in Crenshaw County, thanks in part to a more than $230,000 Community Development Block Grant from ADECA to Dongwon.
Gov. Robert Bentley announced this week the $230,099 award to the Crenshaw County Commission will provide infrastructure improvements necessary for Dongwon Autopart Technology Alabama to construct a 90,000 square foot addition to its plant, located near Highland Home.
The expansion will create 75 new jobs at the plant.
Dongwon manufactures doorframes, roof moldings and side impact beams for Hyundai Alabama and General Motors.
According to the release, the expansion will permit the company to manufacture additional components for Hyundai’s Sonata and Elantra cars.
“New jobs mean greater opportunities for the residents of Crenshaw County and surrounding counties,” Bentley said. “This expansion by Dongwon and the continued growth of the automobile industry in Alabama are encouraging signs of an improving economy.”
The CDBG grant will fund construction of an onsite sewage-treatment facility.
Officials said the plant is scheduled to be in operation by year end.
