The third time proved to be the charm for Fort Dale Academy.

In their third playoff game in program history, the Eagles defeated Lee-Scott Academy 5-1 Monday night for their first ever postseason win.

“This is a big win,” Fort Dale head coach Bert Rice said. “For a fairly new program it’s important to get that first win. It gets us over that hump of making the playoffs, but losing in the first round.”

Fort Dale dominated Monday’s match en route to its 11th win of the season.

“I thought we had great effort tonight,” Rice said. “I liked the hustle.”

Brandon Brown and Jake Gillem each had two goals to lead the Eagles’ offensive attack. Cole Davis also found the net for Fort Dale.

With the win, the Eagles advance to face the winner of the Macon-East Montgomery Academy/Hooper Academy match.

“No matter which team wins, we’re going to play a pretty good team,” Rice said. “We’re going to have to really play well to beat either one of them.”

Fort Dale and the Macon-East/Hooper winner will face off Friday at 6 p.m. at the AUM Soccer Complex in Montgomery.
