A seven-run third inning power Fort Dale Academy to a 10-2 win over Sparta Academy Tuesday at the Fort Dale Sportsplex.
The offensive burst helped the Eagles (3-1) overcome an early deficit after yielding a run to the Warriors in the top of the first.
“I don’t know what it is right now, but we’re starting slow,” Fort Dale head coach Josh Beverly said. “We’ve given up a run in the first inning of every game we have played so far, but overall I thought we played OK against Sparta. They have a much better team than they have had the last couple of years, so I was pleased that we got the win.”
Senior Chris Cobb earned the win on the mound for the Eagles. The Fort Dale hurler tossed three innings and allowed one earned run on five hits, while striking out three Warriors.
Senior Cade Tillery led the charge at the plate for Fort Dale.
He was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Junior Black Harris was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs driven in, while Cobb finished the contest 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs.
“We hit the ball OK,” Beverly said. “Once we got the lead I felt like we lost focus a little and didn’t get some runs across that we should have, but overall I felt like we swung the bat OK.”
The Eagles defeated Morgan Academy 15-5 on Thursday and dropped a 5-3 decision to Lowndes Academy on Friday in their opening round game of the Fort Dale Academy Tournament.
